10th Annual Driftless Spoon Gathering

  • Village Park- La Farge (map)

The Driftless Folk School 10th Annual Spoon Gathering will be held in our usual place: the beautiful 4 acre Village Park in La Farge, Wisconsin, September 9 – 11, 2022. The entrance fee is $15/person or $25/family, which covers the entire weekend!

A Spoon Gathering is an event for spoon carvers—and would-be spoon carvers or people curious about spoon carving—and green woodworkers of all sorts to get together to carve spoons, talk carving and carving tools, share techniques and tools and carving wood, trade or sell spoons or tools. Some folks come to the Park on Friday afternoon, set up camp for the weekend, and start carving before the evening campfire. Others show up on Saturday or Sunday. The schedule is very open: the main purpose is just getting together with others interested in spoon carving and green woodworking.

There will be a beginners’ class Saturday morning, with carving knives and wood available—no extra charge for the class. No extra charge for anything. A few demonstrations of axe skills, sharpening techniques, detailing, etc. usually get organized. And there are two special events: a potluck Saturday night (with live music by a local Old-Timey group, Whiskey Chiken) a Spoon Pass at noon on Sunday.

Never been to a Spoon Pass? Just bring a spoon blank and your carving tools: we’ll sit in a circle and carve on a blank for 5 minutes, then pass the blank to the person on your left. At the end of an hour (or so), you go away from the Circle with the last spoon you carved on. (Worried you won’t have a blank?—someone will knock one out for you.)

Registration is optional--pay online or when you arrive.

Camping is first-come, first-served. Camping fees are $10-$20, depending on services, and are paid separately to the Village Park.

Please bring all food and personal supplies. Some wood and carving tools will be available to buy.
