The ‘junk’ all over the house
Arts and crafts are one of my biggest hobbies, not just for fun but as a therapy as well. I started crafting at about 8 years old, which started with cross stitching.
At the time of writing this piece, I have four craft projects (probably more) that I am actually working on. Those projects I have been working off and on for months. But to me, that doesn’t matter. What matters to me, is that it keeps my mind occupied, especially at times when I am down.
Now, if you ask my husband Paul about my crafting, he will tell you that I do not need any more supplies, and that I have crafts to do that very well could last me years. But I see it as I have supplies to make things when they come to my mind. A lot of my supplies I have bought when they were on sale, not even knowing when or what I was going to use them for.
Most of the time when I craft, unless it is for a special order, an idea pops into my mind and I think, ‘Oh, that would be cute. Let’s see what I have to make that.’, and the magic begins.
The ideas I have at the spur of the moment, usually turn out better than things that I actually plan.
When I make art, Paul usually tells me that it is beautiful or cool. With that in mind, the ‘junk’ (as he calls it) that is in different areas of our house tends to turn into a masterpiece.
For all the crafty women out there, keep doing what you are doing. If you buy something that you might not necessarily have a use for at the time, but is on sale, I encourage you to buy it. It will keep you occupied, focused, and may even keep you out of your husband’s hair like it does mine.
Author’s note: At the time of publishing, Paul was hiding somewhere.
