Twice a year, fall and spring, the almost deafening call of Sandhill cranes echo across the sky and land of Wisconsin. Known as one of the oldest bird species having been in existence for more than ten-million years or more, Sandhills are only one of fifteen types of cranes.
Beginning in July, the Little Eagle Arts Foundation (LEAF), will coordinate the creation of a community-inspired clay tile mosaic mural that will be installed along the Great Sauk State Trail.
It was a year ago last April that Mike Yount retired after 26 years in the Wisconsin guard. “I did serve overseas in Iraq. Once my time was up in the army, I decided that I needed to do something to stay busy. I decided we were going to open a shop here in Baraboo,” Yount said.
With Wisconsin boasting around 600 county parks, they all need to be managed specific to their area. Falling under the responsibility of each county’s government, recreation may not be the only focus of many.
Though cold and windy, members of the Hocak Nation held a Day of Celebration at the Sauk County Fairgrounds in Baraboo, Wisconsin on Sunday, October 13th.
