Having spent years learning sort as an understudy of the late Hoocąk (Ho-Chunk) artist and sculptor Harry Whitehorse, Gene Delcourt is determined to make sure that Whitehorse’s work and life are never forgotten. Delcourt, half Abenaki and half Filipino, is a wood sculptor who developed the idea for an annual event to honor and memorialize Whitehorse’s life and impact on the art community worldwide.

Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women 5k run/walk held in LaCrosse

On May 5th, a couple hundred people gathered in Burns Park across the street from the Ni Tani Hocira (Three Rivers House) Hoocąk (Ho-Chunk) Nation La Crosse Branch Office in La Crosse, Wisconsin, for the second annual Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) 5k run/walk.

Menominee and Potawatomi elder Art Shegonee speaks at Sauk Prairie Area Historical Society

As a part of the annual Sauk Prairie Eagle Watching days, the Sauk Prairie Area Historical Society again welcomed Art Shegonee. Shegonee, a Menominee and Potawatomi activist, dance artist, and educator, has served as an ambassador to Wisconsin Indian Summer that used to be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
