It’s alarming how many animals do not have a forever home, or that endure horrific abuse/neglect in our country. One Reedsburg, Wisconsin couple, Alexis Schaffer and her fiancé, Tim Clark are making a difference one animal at a time in the Driftless Area.
Over the last two years, 70 Coon Creek Watershed residents shared more than 60 hours of stories about the Coon Creek Watershed as part of the Coon Creek Community Watershed Council’s Learning to Make Running Water Walk Oral Narrative Project. Madison-based artist Gabrielle Whisler has listened to nearly all of them.
Often referred to as the radio station of the Driftless, WDRT has been on air since 2010. As a community radio station, WDRT is, for the most part, a volunteer-based station. This past weekend, the station celebrated community by holding their first ‘Block Party’.
For Toby Lee and Joan Greendeer-Lee, practicing forest management in the Coon Creek Watershed is all about creating thriving woodlands for the next generation. When people stop by our farm on their way to Wildcat Mountain State Park or the Kickapoo Valley Reserve, they are often in awe of the beauty.
“So, this is my boyfriend's family farm, and his family started it back in 1865,” said Emily Matzke.
A sixth-generation farm in Sauk City, Wisconsin, Emily shared, “this very land that we're sitting on, is the initial plot of land that my boyfriend Avery’s family the Elsings have farmed.”
