On November 21st, the Kickapoo Valley Reserve (KVR) located just outside of LaFarge, Wisconsin, welcomed its new Executive Director, Lynn Kronschnabel.
“The way that I learned was from my grandmother and my mother. A lot of what we were told was to be quiet, to sit there, to listen and to work. We listened to what our elders told us and we also obeyed whatever they told us to do,” said Hoocąk (Ho-Chunk) Janice Rice.
Once again I find myself in the role of student. This time embarking on the studies of nature through the Wisconsin Master Naturalist volunteer training program.
The Kickapoo Reserve Management Board (KRMB) recently introduced two new Board members.
With 370 registered and roughly 100 choosing not to race understandably due to weather conditions, a majority of racers braved the elements for the 2019 Kickapoo Valley Reserve Dam Challenge, along with team supporters and spectators.
In the past couple years, streams and creeks throughout the Driftless region in Southwestern Wisconsin have been reshaped and seen bank erosion due to severe storms and more than average flooding.

With a beautiful start to the Memorial Day weekend, Saturday’s sunshine and warm temperatures found the Kickapoo river busy with canoe and kayak enthusiasts alike.
A dreary and went day did not stop bird lovers from attending a bird conservation and habitat presentation and resources held on Saturday, May 18th.
First place in the 8-mile race for female and male respectively was, Leah Baldwin, finishing at 1:03:31.5, and David Maxwell, finishing at 1:04:14.2.
First place in the 13.1-mile race for male and female respectively was Rusty Daines, finishing at 1:31:12.6, and Jill Wojta, finishing at 1:47:20.6.
